Chironomus inermifrons Kieffer 1916

Currently a nomen dubium but could be a valid species if adult males were identified as it has precedence over the Geotghebuer species.

Male.  Not known

Female: Reddish-brown.  Frontal lobes absent.  Antennae with 6 segments, the last slightly darkened; second segment weakly narrowed in the middle; short collar; 3-5 flask-shaped; long collar, more than twice as long as wide; vertex with 6-8 very long hairs; sensory organs scarcely larger than the hairs of the vertices; 6th segment scarcely more pointed than the preceding ones, cylindrical, gradually tapering to a point in the distal third, twice as long as the 5th; long distal sole(?) and fairly long and numerous sensory organs.  Mesonotum whitish, with three shortened, shiny black bands.  Metanotum dark brown.  Halteres white.
Wings hyaline; cross vein no darker than the other veins; bifurcation of the postical vein markedly distal to the cross vein.
Legs whitish, last tarsal segments darkened, anterior metatarsus almost half longer than the tibia, the latter scarcely shorter than the femur, tarsal segments 2-4 gradually and very slightly shortened, pulvili broad.
Abdomen a light brownish, compressed and slightly arched.
Length 3 mm.

Found: Type locality - Tainan, Formosa
            Anping, Formosa.
