Chironomus mongolheius Sasa & Suzuki 1997

Males
Body length 8.32 (6.28-9.86) mm; wing length 3.63 (2.88-4.22) mm, WW/WL 0.27 (0.26-0.28), R-M area dark; AR 4.35 (3.98-4.75); VR 1.05 (1.03-1.07) or 0.95 (0.93-0.97).
Frontal tubercles prominent, 38 x 11 µm.  Eyes bare, ER 0.23 (0.13-0.29); palp relatively short.
Ground color of scutum and scutellum yellow, stripes brown-dark brown, postnotum dark brown, leg segments almoest uniformly brownish-yellow, with TaV darker, and without dark rings.  Abdominal tergites almost uniformly brown, but TVII and TVIII with pale area along caudal margin.
fLR 1.37 (11.25-1.46); mLR 0.54 (0.49-0.57); hLR 0.65 (0.62-0.68).  BR 5.3 (3.3-7.8).

TIX shown with about 17 setae.  Anal point stout; Superior volsella closest to S type(f) of Strenzke (1959); Anal point relatively short, narrow and constricted at base; gonostylus smoothly rounded and not constricted near apex.

Female: Not described

Pupa, Larva and Cytology: Not described

Somewhat similar to C. plumosus (Linnaeus) but not as large.

Found:    Mongolia - (Type locality) Bogd (1500 m).
