Chironomus species I Sharma, Gupta and Gandotra (1990a)

All life stages obtained, but only the chromosomes described.

Cytology: Four polytene chromosomes with the pseudothummi-cytocomplex combination BF, CD, AE, G.
The chromosomes were mapped following the system of Martin (1969), but without homology of bands.:   Nucleolus on arm F at 4C, and a large puff at 2D, with the centromere possibly at 4B.
Chromosome II sometimes shows asynapsis in 7A and B, a constriction at 9B and a large swelling in segment 11, which is a useful identification feature.
Chromosome III is medium sized with 3 swellings in arm A (one of which will be the 'olive' Ð perhaps 15B?) and 3 closely placed dark bands in 13A, 14C, and 15D.
Chromosome IV is arm G, with a small puff in 16B (a BR? but not clear) and two swellings at 17B and 17C; often asynapsed at the right end.
