Description of holotype of Chironomus jacksoni (in prep)

Proposed holotype adult male: Bellerive, Tasmania AT.9.19 17 March 1980, Emass #62 M1:
Wing length 3.58 mm, width 0.80 mm; VR 0.99.  25 setae on squamal fringe, 2 SCf on brachiolum.  Wings with anterior veins slightly darker than posterior, crossvein slightly darkened.
Head, antennae and mouth parts brown.  AR 2.55.  Frontal tubercles present, length 25 ݙm.  Clypeal width 0.77 of the diameter of the antennal pedicel; 28 clypeal setae. Palp proportions (micron): 60 : 60 : 205 : 215 : 320.
Thorax generally green with yellow brown stripes; thorax pruinose. Thoracic setae: abt 13 acrostichal; 14 dorsocentral; 5 prealar; 2 supraalar; scutellum with 2 rows of setae – 14 larger posterior setae, and 2 small setae in anterior row.
Legs yellowish green, unbanded.  Leg lengths (micron) and proportions:

Abdomen greenish with dark saddle spots on anterior segments, segments 6, 7 and 8 wholly dark; 10 setae on tergite IX.
Gonostylus only moderately swollen and reducing gently over posterior half; 6+1 setae at tip.  Superior Volsella of E(h) type of Strenzke (1959); Inferior Volsella reaching to end of anal point, recurved setae simple.
