Premandible of C. javanus
C. javanus is the only Australasian Chironomus species with a 7 toothed premandible,
and certainly the only Australian species with other than the normal 2 teeth.



Other mouthparts of C. javanus
a. Pecten epipharyngis.  Note the somewhat irregular teeth.  b. Antenna, with relatively long, narrow basal segment.
c. Mentum.  Note the well separated c2 teeth which slope towards c1 of the central trifid tooth (type IIa).
4th laterals hardly reduced (type I). d. Ventromentum, with about 27-28 striae.
e. Mandible  Note the coloured and separate third inner tooth(type IIIC).
