Abdomen pale, with brown, broadly diamond shaped transverse area in basal half of tergites I-IV.
About 3-5 setae in a vaguely demarcated area on tergite IX. Anal point narrow but broadening at tip; Superior volsella closest to E(h)-type of Strenzke (1959); Inferior volsella, with simple setae, not reaching to tip of anal point - about proximal quarter of gonostylus, which is moderately broadened and narrows relatively gently over posterior third to half, 4+1 setae at tip.
Female:
Wing length: 3.07 (2.8-3.5) mm, 2 Scf on brachiolum, 16.25 (13-19) setae on squamal fringe; colour as male but abdomen less well marked than in male.
Head: frontal tubercles 10x7.5 (1.3 times longer than wide)(not absent as in original description); with 22+ temporal setae in a continuous multiserial row from inner verticals, 19-26 clypeal setae. Antenna with A5 400-420 µm, basal 4 flagellomeres each 156-158 µm long, A4 with neck 50% of length; AR 0.35-0.37. Palp segments (micron): 40 : 40-60 : 140-155 : 190-210 : 315-335, P5/P4 1.60-1.66; P5/P3 2.16-2.25.
Thoracic setae: abt. 11-17 Acrostichal; 4 linear Humeral; 21 Dorsocentral (27-28 incl. Humerals); 5-6 Prealars; 5 small in anterior row, 15 larger in posterior row (total 14-21) Scutellars.
